can anybody help... Im spending more time in the petrol station filling up than driving. Im going to change plugs today but other than that im lost. I have heard of people getting 300-350 miles on a full tank. Im lucky to get 170-200 miles. Please help.

Apart from servicing issues, I'd say look for stuff like...

- Using 98 octane fuel. Stock FTO ECU was tuned for Japan domestic 100 octane. It'll dumb down its timing if the knock sensor "sees" inferior fuel by way of detecting detonation.

- Higher tyre pressures. I've never, ever run 32 psi front, 28 psi rear (the "recommended" pressures). Bad to start with, and gets plain dangerous if you don't check them and they drop even lower. You'll get better mileage at higher pressure. A driving course I did yonks ago recommended 4-5 psi above factory recommended pressures.

- If you have amps and subs in the boot that collectively weigh as much again as the base car, it might be a factor, hehe.

- Driving style? But I'm not gonna go there. If we wanted a Prius, we'd have bought a Prius! Smile


Can't think of anything else right now... as you said, new plugs. Correct oil...

Thanks rich. I use 'v' max fuel in u.k. which thay claim to be '97' ron. I have used an octain booster before and got pretty much the same mileage. Your right about the driving style too Wink Having changed plugs and stripping the intake chamber ( lost my filter and sucked up all sorts) the car runs smoother but millage just as bad. Tried driving like my nan for a while and nothings really changed. Im with you on the tyre pressures, i always run on higher pressures. I bought the car from a mate and i know for a fact he had problems when he took the cat by-pass pipe of and put the cat back on for the m.o.t. He damaged the o2 sensor. He bought a new one in from jap. for �150. I know the 1.8 uses a sensor that cost this amount and also know that the 2.0 version costs more like �280...OUCH!! do you think putting this sensor on the car would affect the way im using fuel.
