After our steady run of same-old-same-old its time for a bit of a change, so we are planning a new combined Photo Shoot / Cruise event for the near future.

---- The Photoshoot ----

So whats the deal? We have lined up the services of a professional
photographer for a club photo shoot at an exotic location. The photos will be group only, no individual shots, though if anyone is interested in individual shots you may be able to approach our photographer on the day to line something up.

The aim of this photoshoot is to get a good, high quality professional shot of the club for inclusion in next year's UK FTO Owners Club Calendar. If you wish to get your car into the photo shoot then there will be a cost involved, however the more car's the cheaper the cost for everyone.
You will be able to get a hold of digital copies of the photo shoot for free electronically (via the www.ftowa.com website), or on CD for a small fee (yet to be priced). If you wish to get any prints of the photo's then you may do so at your own cost, or if there is enough interest we will organise a run of prints to be made.

Location is yet to be confirmed, however we have a number of possibilities.
1. Fremantle Docks Area
2. Docks near Kwinana near Austel Ship builders. A jetty you can drive onto!
3. The Derelict East Perth Power Station.

If anyone has any other location ideas then please send them to me.

---- The Cruise ----

After the photo shoot we will then head off on a nice cruise through some open country roads. Cruise route has not yet been decided but it will be similar format to our old cruises and a map will be posted nearer to the event. For those who have not taken part in a cruise yet, it will be roughly out into the country past Pearce air base into some nice twisty country roads then back to the coast. Se our old cruise writeups to see what we get up to. For those have have been on one of our cruises before you know how much fun it is!

Date: 20th September, 2003.
I know this _may_ be a bit of a too-late-notice for some people, however we have to fit into the schedule of the photographer. We have one other date available to us, but the best date for her is 20th September. (The alternate date is 4th October, if this is better for you let me know ASAP so that I can shuffle things around)

Time: 7:30am Sharp.
Sorry folks but its going to have to be early morning. It is the best time of day to shoot cars, with the sun not up very high. If we push any later than this then we will just have a mess of shadows and all the hard work will be wasted. Cruise should finish early afternoon (1pm-2pm)

Numbers: We are looking for a turnout of _20+_ FTO's.
Yes, this would make it our biggest event yet. For this event to work we need everyone to get involved. If you have signed up on the website but are yet become involved with the club's events then this is the ideal time to get yourself involved. We will even try and get these photo's up into the cruise section of a number of press publications if we have enough people turn up.

Cost: $TBA
Yes there will be a cost involved, but we believe the cost will be very low and will depend on the amount of cars that turn up for the shoot. I will let you know as soon as I get preliminary numbers and have been able to get these to the photographer.

I'm sorry guys and girls but the photo shoot will be an FTO-only affair, though the post-photo shoot cruise is open for all comers. Bring friends etc. for another nice blast (well, maybe not blast through some nice open roads. Note that you can come for just the Photoshoot if you like, and take off if you are not interested or too busy to be involved in the cruise.

I went scouting for good photo locations, and found a good 'un!

Down past Coogee Beach, there is the big Maritime complex... Oceanfast, Austel Shipbuilders, etc. In one area, there is a Naval drydock that is a perfect backdrop.

Currently, there is a submarine (!) and a ship undergoing maintenance there. It is visible from a carpark up the hill, with an inclined bank at the back end of it - perfect place to put a photographer. The carpark was totally vacant, as there is nothing around. It's big enough for a fair number of FTOs, in a variety of photogenic arrangements.

The carpark is also located outside the Naval complex, so there are no restrictions on photography. I talked to the security staff at the front gate about it. If we were down by the yard itself, different story - no photos. But on the 'civilian' side of the gatehouse, it's okay.

Orientation at sun-up is no problem either. The sun would be coming from over the photographer's left shoulder.

I had a look at the derelict power station at Coogee as well, but you can't get close. The drydock looked far better though!

Okay everyone, Date has been confirmed and set at 4th October instead of 20th September.

Price has not yet been confirmed however it will be less than the previously reported figure.

Time has also changed. I had a more in-depth conversation with the photographer and she wants us to start as early as possible. So, if possible could everyone get to our location (once finalised) at 7:00am->7:15am.

How many are confirm going at this stage?

As for the photo inclusion in the UK FTO calender, is it a definite? Any idea how much the calender will cost? Might have to do a group order to save on postage.

As Mark is now neck-deep in planning his move to England (!), I'm picking up the planning for this one. I'll have an update ready by the end of this weekend...

Not at all! Each year, it's a photo competition. There are some magnificent photos submitted (I've got the 2002 & 2003 ones), so we'll have our work cut out for us, hehe.

Briefly, we are meeting at the Australian Marine Complex, Henderson, at
7:30am on Saturday October 4th for a photo session. After this, we will
head off in convoy for brunch in Dwellingup - the Millhouse Cafe, to be precise. This is a very nice drive indeed!

Also note that a few of us insomniacs will be meeting at Fast Eddy's Fremantle around 6:30am for coffee before heading down to Henderson.

Total cost for the photographer will come to $100, so cost per vehicle won't be very high. Final cost per car depends on turnout, of course.

If you manage to surface some time that morning, you could always catch the departure to Dwellingup. Hangover permitting!

Not sure when we'll be leaving the car park, but it will probably be around 9:00 - 9:30... there is bound to be a fair bit of car shuffling and tyre-kicking while the photo setup occurs!

It will be a pretty early lunch in Dwellingup... hence the 'brunch' tag.

I guess it depends on how leisurely we tackle the scoffing of food!

It's quite possible we could all be back in Perth by 1pm, I reckon. So just a morning out really. Then again, we're starting pretty early, so that's not a big surprise!

Vlad - I don't think the photo session will last more than 2 hrs (7.30 - 9.30??) Why don't you just come to that and head off when it's time.

Uisce - It will be great fun, especially the cruise. It might be early, but once you get going, it will be an awesome run.
