Hi William.

Has SGIO declined to insure you, or did they just give you a sky-high quote?

Hi William,
well I've had my GPX for more than 4 yrs now and nothing has gone wrong except for the idle speed controller. But a quick trip to the mitsu dealer fixed that. I didn't get a new part as the ISC was just reset, so I can't comment on the price of parts.

So it's pretty much a 9 yr old car that's still going strong. I've got no complaints really Smile

As for insurance have you tried going to a broker? I'm on 65% ncb and it costs me $900/yr to insure it. Sorry to say it will probably be much higher for you since you're only 18. I started off paying $1500 when I was 23 with SGIO.

Happy hunting Smile

I've moving overseas at the end of the year so i've got just what your looking for..

1995 GPX "Manual"
78500 Km's
Silver

Its actually still got an extended warranty on it till Mid December through Skippers. Owned by me (an old guy in the FTO world) for the last year or so. I've only clicked up about 7000 km since i bought it. Well looked after no problems at all.

Will sell for a good price !!

Post back if you interested, i'll give you my details..

hehe. You may indeed find a good insurance company, but at 18 with zero NCB they will undoubtedly want a big pile-o-cash out of ya...

And that probably won't be just for a small sports car either. I remember my brother-in-law getting stiffed bigtime for insuring a humble Lantra!

You may find the GR model cheaper to insure. Ask...

> is servicing parts exp as the car is an import

It all depends on how obsessive you are with your servicing! Smile The major service items (timing belt, valve clearance adjustments) can be pricey. Just make sure you buy a GPX with a good history so you can work out what needs doing when.

I've just uploaded a little XLS spreadsheet that is based on the one I use for tracking age of parts and stuff. Dunno if it's useful to anyone else, but it might give you an idea of what will need doing and when.

https://ftowa.allanson.org/docs/FTO_GPX_Svc_Part_Age.xls

The mileage settings will need to be customised a bit...

Hope this helps. Good luck, anyway!

have you tried just cars... for young drivers/imports they seem to be the best... apart from that try EBM insurance brokers as they also seem to be able to get insurance for it. there is also another place I have heard about.. famous car insurance dont know much about them but what I have heard is that they are good!!

good luck
