I guess I got a little carried away doing some circuit training before Christmas. 30 minutes of hard yakka on the long track at the airport complex... and I overheated the best set of pads I've ever driven on.

Bugger!

The brakes got really squeaky after that day out on the track... so tonight I hauled 'em out to have a look. And the trailing end of the pads had fallen apart. It looked like a big bite had been taken out of them.

They didn't fade the whole time on the track, and were still good on the road. An amazing product... just badly abused by an over-enthusiastic driver, hehe.

Now I'm back to an old pair of Mintex M1144 I had is the shed. Yeesh, they really do feel kind of average after the Pagids....! No snappy bite.

There are indeed limits to what a set of pads will take... even a top quality set. FTO brakes just build up heat too fast for non-stop long track driving (and I wasn't taking it easy, either). I guess there may also be the issue of having uneven pressure from just 2 pistons on the fronts. FTOs have EVO I/II/III brakes. Mitsubishi uprated them from the EVO IV on... for good reason!

Ah well. I'm not going to run off and change all my calipers, etc. etc. A lot cheaper just to slot in some more cooldown laps (ie. slot in some more brains) while out doing that sort of thing.

I'll post up a pic if I get around to taking one. It looks very dodgy.

Ah, it's all cool. I've had the Facts of Life explained to me by John Clark...

I wasn't aware that Pagid pads had little brass wear pins embedded within the material. I thought that the lack of an external clip-style wear indicator meant that there simply wasn't one.

But all four pads were down to the pins. Hence the squeaking sound (duh). And hence their inability to cope with massive heat, due to the low pad thickness.

Live and learn! At least it means I didn't waste perfectly good pads (and therefore dollars) due to bad brake heat management. If I'd wanted to keep stringing those pads on until they were even lower, I'd have had to refrain from circuit driving and sustained motorkhana training. And that would be a no-fun world I wouldn't want to live in!!!

Hey Rich, do u knoe the heat ratings for this pagid pad? the Mu rating as well?

I'm over here in Singapore n looking at a set of replacements dat are not noisy when cold, less dusty n kind on rotors as well.

Currently on a set of project mu 500s which bite pretty well with dba slotteds except dat their noisy n very dusty.

Considering btw e pagids n ferodos, which would u rate to be better n hav e above characteristics?

alot of the lads over here are running on redstuff ceramics and say that they are quite good on the road as well as the track. and it eliminates the pagid dust issue which seems to be with every version of the pagid pads.

Green stuff have had good reviews as well.
