Hi guys i'm a newbie from malaysia. It's great to have found this website which active unlike the one in malaysia.
Anyway was hoping u guys can help me with my FTO.
I've just purchased a 95' fto mivec gpx version Tiptronic. I've spend a small fortune doing the car up like changing all d arms n bush, servicing, bodykits,wheels etc. The timing belt have also been changed. Really love my ride. It's actually my first proper car after so many years. Anyway till recently i have found out that there is a rev cut at 6500 rpm. I've never rev more than 5000 rpm till one day i thought of seeing what my baby can do when a Mitsubishi VR4 was tailgaiting me. Just then i realise the rev cut thingy..
There's no miss firing. It just feel like there's is not enough fuel going into the engine.It just jerks only n i need to step up my pedal to let the gear shift.
A friend of mine said it could be the ecu sensor problem so d car is running in safe mode or maybe the cambelt have not been installed properly when the timing belt has been changed..
Really hope u guys could help me out.. I really feel sad coz can't feel the optimum power of my baby.. Thanks a million guys..

This does in fact sound like the engine ECU enforcing a low rev limiter.
Has the alternator been rebuilt or replaced? If so, it could have been done wrong. There is apparently a signal from the alternator to the engine ECU (an extra pinout on the GPX compared to most alternators), and if something's not right it will limit.
It could also be another sensor issue. There is an easy way to extract error codes - see the 'Workshop' article here...

There's also a 6500rpm rev limiter when the engine is cold.
But I'm sure you wouldn't be revving the nuts off it before letting it warm up for 10-15 minutes.........!

thanks so much for d info.. sorry for the late reply coz there was a pretty long weekend in malaysia due to some muslim thingy so was chilling with all my mates.. even had a "TT aka Teh Tarik" session which means Tea break session, with some FTO members from malaysia. Will upload some pics..
Anyway got it checked out n found the knock sensor was disconnected.. got a new one replaced n now its running well..real glad at last.
Anyway thanks guys.. will keep in touch in this forum with u guys..
If any chance u guys coming to kl do let me know la.. will show u guys around..

Good result.
I've disconnected the knock sensor myself to see what happens, and it looks like this:
The red curve was your car before. The blue curve is your car now.

wow...thats awesome man..btw is there alot of spare parts for fto in aus??
actually looking for small stuff like new aircond panel, new headlamps etc..if not new wouldn't mind a good condition one. Do u know any place around perth to hunt for fto stuff?? coz my mom is in perth at the moment so tot maybe she could bring back some goodies for me..hehe.
btw thanks so much for all d info..really appreciate it..hope to learn more about fto.. is there any chance for a tiptronic mivec fto could out run a vtec ?? i find it hard to overtake them even with the old civic with small v tec.. but otherwise its a real pleasure driving it.. |

The FTO is listed. You should be able to get a decent list of wreckers from that, then ring/email around.
Dunno about what outruns what. I only get competitive off public roads! Preferably on very twisty courses, in horrible wet conditions. The FTO's pretty good at taking on other cars in situations like that!

I wouldn't have thought it would be that much difference from oz to malaysia than the uk to malaysia. Mind you,us Brits do pay more for things in the first place  |

hey mr.bishi, didn't know ur from uk.. i was living in london for some time.. used to live in canada water next to canary wharf..how bout u?? cars r so cheap there mate.. guess how much a 95 fto gpx like mine cost in malaysia without insurance n etc.. just the car... its around 10 to 12 thousand pounds.. malaysia sucks mate..hehe..
love uk except for the sad bombing that had occured.. was there then..really pissed wiv those bombers mate..should introduce those fellow to other more interesting hobbies like doing up fto or even drifting...hehe..much more interesting than bombing people..
Btw r accessories 4 fto cheap in uk??? thought of getting the alluminium rings as well as the white dials ur having.. looks awesome mate..can't get any of those goodies here..so sad..
anyway ur car is too cool mate..cheers..

I live in Rugby about 100miles north of London,yeah the bombings were a sad sad day.....my girlfriend was working near there on that day,i couldn't have been more worried untill i got hold of her!
I have thought about those dial rings,but i've got plenty to get sorted before that!
