I'm planning to buy a GPX 1996 auto and need any advice on what I should consider before buying.

I'll check the usuall things like fluid levels, oils, air filter, engine revs, compression tests if possible. I'm also thinkin of getting NRMA to do a test on the car for $200. u guys reckon that is worth the money. does anyone know what type of tests do they conduct?

below are the specs of the car that is up for sale. the rego is already expired i believe... seller wants 14g. I want to negotiate to 11k if possible? u guys reckon that is reasonable offer?

Black Mitsubishi FTO,2.0 Mivec engine, Great Condition, Serviced regularly , interior is immaculate. Power windows and sunroof, alarm and imboliser. Mechanically A1. 14000 negotiable.

Depends what you are looking for, seems a auto car?

You will have an idea if you like the car as soon as you look/drive it. Make sure you drive it in low speeds and also when you give it some stick. My mate bought a pulsar last week and because they had a quick test around the block and not a thorough check, i noticed the clutch was slipping above 4k.

The only reason you would get NRMA and RAC is if you really want to get the car and all your finances are sorted out.

You also haven't told us the k's on it and if it has done the 100k service... which cost couple of k's to do when its done 100 000kms.

That's weird. That is a GPX engine, but it looks like a GR air cleaner box and induction pipe. There is a little box on top of the airway leading out of the air cleaner. That's not a GPX fitting.

The GPX uses MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor for the engine management, which is just a wee pipe off the manifold to a little unit way at the back. The air box has a nice big exit pipe, without any of that extra plastic stuff.

That little box looks to be the MAS (mass airflow sensor) from the non-MIVEC engine.

The engine is certainly MIVEC - the oil filler is on the left, etc., so no worries there.

I would say this used to have a pod filter fitted, but they have taken it off and put on the nearest thing they could find to a stock looking induction pipe. Not the right one for the car, though. I can't see it being a huge deal in isolation, but it could indicate the car has seen some thrashing and tweaking in its life. Then again, so's mine!!!

The only other items of note are the aftermarket pedals and steering wheel. So it's not been a stock "church on sundays" FTO then, hehe.

Contrast that against the two-piece pipe in your pic, with the control box on top as well.
