Hi guys,
ello im the latest forum newbie but really i'm here to assess the situation on the FTO..
I'm not actually in the hunt for a car yet, but I'm basically trying to assess the situation as mentioned..
anyway.. just a few questions if you don't mind
1. how come there is so little info on any GPvR's in aust? i mean.. i've searched on the net and in the papers long and hard, and only came across that 31k tiptronic and a 23k one of suspicious nature (advertised as a FTO Type R.. to which I have had no reply from the seller)
2. Why don't ppl import the GPvR? SEVS allows for it, but is it really that rare? how many were made?
3. Is the GPX a suitable substitute? engine seems the same, but u don't get LSD and HIDs.. not to mention a nice updated bumper cos i'm assuming HIDs cost quite a bit but LSDs can be bought for 2k or so? i guess its probably more cost effective.. Oh.. and blue seats too
Anyway, those are my questions. I'm kinda new to the FTO scene cos i haven't been much of a front drive fan (currently driving an n15 pulsar 1.6 for 6 yrs with nothing on it, so its quite discouraging). A couple of my friends have the dc2 type r and the new celica, and i was able to keep up with an r33gts-t in a cruise so i'm now more open minded when selecting cars, which is a few months away.
Currently my sights are set on either FC rx7 turbo, 180sx, AW11 MR-2, FTO GPX (or gpr ), integra vti-r, civic ek4 vti-r, or ae86 corolla
thanks for your help guys |

Hiya!
It's interesting, isn't it - the apparent lack of GPvR FTOs around in Oz...
Personally speaking, I would now choose one over a GPX, simply because:
(a) I'm doing track day stuff every month and find myself pulling out stuff to make it lighter... Something that they did to the GPvR out of the factory!
(b) I spent time, money and effort firming up the suspension on the GPX - again, the GPvR was a little tighter to begin with.
One thing to remember is that the import laws got changed recently. If I understand the rules correctly (or bits of them) someone needs to be officially complying the GPvR. Don't know if anyone is yet.
I'm sure there are some around. But it will take some looking! ...and go for a manual, hehe. Am I biased? Sure!!

yea i believe the GPvR is like the ITR in that everything is stripped down to bare minimum (air con a must, still), although its a shame that the GPvR didn't get a more insane motor.
Yea i had a look at the prestige motorsports website and didn't find _any_ compliances for the FTO at all, but hopefully that'll change in the new year when hopefully some ppl do get compliance. Even then, the GPvR was available under the old SEVs scheme wasn't it? If so, it still puzzles me as to why people didn't import it as much as the GPX. Maybe its the lack of creature comforts or something..
Oh yea, and i'm all for manual. That's a given for me 6yrs of driving a manual and i haven't lost any of the fun (peak hr traffic is still bearable!) |

| I looked at some specs on the fto and found that GPvR's are more heavier than a standard GPX...should this make it more slow? |

Whoever that was, can you quote hard figures or websites you're referring to?
That wasn't my understanding of GR/GPX/GPvR weights...

http://www.mitsubishi-fto.org/info/specs.htm
apparently the GPR is 20kg heavier..
personally i can't think of any reason why it should be heavier
lsd? shouldn't be much more heavier ( if at all) than a standard diff
manual aircon?
doesn't the GPR have all sound deadening material taken off?
i would've thought that a "race-inspired" version would be lighter |

| oh.. from the pics that are on the net, does it seem that the GPR has a different shade of white than the GPX, etc? it looks rather like the white found on the ITR (championship white?) |
