Hi guys...

I'm new to this website, but i have owned a 97 fto mivec for approx 3 years now and very happy with it.

Currently i'm having problems when driving, and ill try to explain:

Mivec comes in at around 5.5rpm (well its supposed to) and it lets you rev all the way to the red line... well...

recently mine, 9 times out of 10 doesn't let me get to redline, infact the mivec doesn't come in at all. It gets to about 5.5 - 6rpm then doesn't let me go further (pings)...

Anyone have any idea whats going on??? an help would be much appreciated.

when the car is too cold it wont let you use the second cam. so first thing to check is, has the car warmed up (5 - 10 mins) driving. if it still wont let you, the sensor that prevents lets the car know it is warm could be broke.

The engine ECU also keeps track of various 'state of health' checks from the engine, alternator, etc. If it sees something iffy, it will rev limit (and also run "low power" standard fuel mappings for some errors).

You should definitely start with the engine ECU error code check.
