Hey, does anyone out there know what parameters I need to consider when setting up a manual V6 MiVEC 2.0?
With the Mirage conversion (see previous post), we used an aftermarket Link Plus ECU.
The problem is we are still trying to suss out what the MiVEC activation signals/points are.
Also, there is a two-input variable inlet manifold on these babies. I think the motor is out of a late RH mount FTO GP-vR.
I have tried RPW and some of the other speed shops around, but they haven't seen a lot of this, since most FTO owners don't change the factory ECU.
Has anyone out there done a similar job on a V6 MiVEC with an aftermarket ECU?

Your best bet would be to ditch the Link Plus ECU and put in a MOTEC. You will have everything you ever need on there including mivec/vtec solenoid switches etc.
Im guessing money is no ojbect here... all i can say is that i'd love to have a ride in a 2ltr mivec mirage  |

I *could* have gone the Motec, but that would have been an extra $2K on the whole job.
I checked with MRT and they say that the Link Plus *can* control mivec/solenoid/continuous output stuffs, but jsut requires parameter entries in the tuning application.
What I'm trying to find out is exactly what do you map the MiVec control against.
RPM?
Load?
Pedal position?
All three?
We suspect it could be just RPM for MiVEC and it could be load/RPM for the variable inlet manifold...
Let's just say when it's done it'll be an absolute screamer.
Even in its current conservative state with no MiVEC and no inlet control sh'es spitting out 94kW peak at the driving wheels. That's just on 10kg/kW at the wheels.
The cool thing is that torque comes in really really low. Like I can take off from traffic lights in 4th gear and still waste the average traffic, as soon as it gets up around 2500-3000rpm.
Hey, if I ever come across to WA for the RPW races, I won't mind takin a few peeps for a lap or two around the track!

Actually, that would be nice!
But I do have a wife and three hungry kids to clothe and feed!
We had a budget and we stuck to it (hence the use of not Motec stuffs). er, yeah, mostly
It will require a bit more engineering but I am confident we'll get there.
Even if I have to go a piggyback MiVEC/iVTEC controller, that's still less money than a motec.
Anyways, it is frighteningly quick in the morning traffic Let's just say, as the Bentley Turbo R brochure says, power output is 'adequate'
I'd love to do some 0-100 and quarter miles. I will post the results if/when I get down to Eastern Creek....
It'd be nice to see the difference pre/post MiVEC....
I like the motor so much I might go and buy the wife an FTO with Tiptronic (yeah, she drives auto like a manual!) when the kids get big enough to not require booster seats and a large van to carry eseentials (nappies, etc). Just so that we can both have a MiVEC. Money permitting, of course! |

the MIVEC switchover is controlled by RPM AND oil temp i think, whent he motor is dead cold you can't rev past about 6200RPM, and MIVEC doesnt kick in at all, as soon as the car is warm (i cant tell you exactly what oil temp etc) MIVEC kicks in at about 5200 or so RPM.
no idea about the inlet side of things though.
Once you have mivec stuff sorted you should be turning about 115-125kw at the wheels depending on how well tuned the engine is.

My brother work fors Honda on their V-tec engines, (where MIVEC technology has been borrowed from... and made better of course.) I've been told the V-tecs work off the oil pressure (not temp). The mivec recognises two points, 4500 Rpm and 5500 RPM, possibly corresponding to certain oil pressures and changes the cam configurations accordingly. I reckon this is how it work but I could be wrong.... if anyone wants to set me straight?
Also, the reason the FTO wont rev out when could could be due to the factory rev limiter being set to a lower limit when cold to protect the engine or it may be some sort of knock sensor retarding it, any suggestions?

I don';t think that is entirely correct, i ahve an oil pressure gauge in my fto, andoil pressure for the first few minutes of driving is kept VERY high (about 600kpa).
MIVEC kickover is def mid 5,000's and sometimes mivec kickdown (switching from hi profile cams to low) occurs about 4500 rpm.
The 6000 limit is definately factory preset for cold engine.

Maybe the cold rev limiter is preset so the oil warms up, dropping the pressure and stopping the MIVEC from engaging too early, ie while the cams etc are still cold.
Hey marke, where did you mount the oil pressure gauge? Been thinkin about gettin one. |
