both manual, both completely stock...

i raced one of my friends with a vti-r last night, we had about 5 runs, i found out that he has a lot more power at 3rd gear, and until i got to 5th gear, did i start pulling away from him.

Overall both the cars are almost equal...i was expecting a lot better with my "beast"..lol, at the end of the race we sat down and went through our cars...

i realised a ticking noise from the engine, which might prove to be a tappet problem, can that really be taking that much away from the engine? making me only equal to a integra vti-r..???

on the other forums, eveyrone seems to be beating them with ease? why is that so...? have they all got crazy mods? or are they just talking shit...? WHY AM I JUST EQUAL WITH AN INTEGRA VTI-R???????

ARGH!!! ANNOYING THINGS...

ok, so back to topic, is the tappet problem really such a big problem? and also, i also heard that a CAI would help alot...

the damn fto gear ratios are too small in 1st....lol
0.5 secs in to the damn thing and whoof i have to shift, no advantage of mivec....

can someone with more experience with the FTOs shed some light on this..?
what rev range do you guys shift on...? right now i have been steady shifting on every red line...but is there another way i should attempt this?like maybe shift 500rpm below the rev line..?

there was also a few times when i rev over the red line and into the red "danger" zone, and the bloody engine kinda cut on me..? is this a common problem? or did it happen when i put the clutch down..? lol

the good memories of the race is starting to fade...lol

Stop thinking so much! You'll strain something!!! Smile

> only equal to a integra vti-r..???

Lots of factors go into this...

- How old is the car, and how well has it been looked after? Are you comparing a 10 year old car (that may need a major service) against a near-new car in peak condition?

- Is your boot full of ICE gear? Is your mate's?

> tappet problem, can that really be taking that much away from the engine?

A few newton metres of torque. Nothing big.

> i also heard that a CAI would help alot...

Here's one I made earlier!...

Welcome to the net!!! Smile

That's your rev limiter. It stops you blowing up your engine. Which is A Good Thing.

> what rev range do you guys shift on...?

Change at 8,000rpm. 1->2 and 2->3 definitely. Don't really care about 3->4 or 4->5... I'm never in a position to need to know the "perfect shift point" that fast.

Make sure you are treating your engine nicely if you insist on doing this with any regularity. Old drivebelts, old timing belt, or crap oil will cut short your fun with a bang!

> the damn fto gear ratios are too small in 1st....lol

Nearly 60km/h in first gear isn't too shabby.

It's because of the usable torque from 5500rpm to 8000rpm due to the MIVEC cams and timing that you're up at redline so fast, and changing to 2nd! Smile

Ah, you need to stop racing your mate's Integra and come and do some motorkhana training. If you like, we can book in a couple of FTOs (including mine, hehe) and you can get that fix of adrenaline... and learn some good stuff along the way!! Smile

well, i am young and still learning to drive...lol
well drive properly and fast...keke

okok, i gotta give this up a bit...lol
maybe drop it in to some workshop to have a look at it, to see if theres anything majorly wrong with it which is stealing any power from it..

other than that, i say lets do some driver training sessions...lol

Just a thought...

You are running it on 98 octane BP Ultimate, aren't you?

yeh, i run only on ultimate 98 octane...

keke, i work at BP petrol station, lol

read up about an article in the forums and said something about the cam belt slipping and being a bit loose, thus causing it to loose a bit of power...is that true?

can adjust ourselves? DIY? and how..?
some light on this issue would be great...

car is running smooth atm, just want it to be perfect before i start doing mods to it....reading back on all my posts, makes my car sounds like a piece of shit...lol

just dun want to be spending money to make the car drive better, while the standard settings of the car are not even proper....for example, i found the hose to the breather in the engine to the air induction pipe loose yesterday...

so i connected this back properly...richard do u know of any implications that this might have had...?

The cambelt is a toothed belt. If either cam sprocket is incorrectly aligned (ie. shifted along by one or more teeth), the valve timing will be out. Which isn't going to be good.
