Hi everyone. I realised only last week that I have always only had 1 car key (and my track record with wallets, watches and misplacing personal items is pretty terrible). I had an FTO key cut, expecting it to only open the doors butt not start the engined due to the chip inside the key.

However the cut key didn't open or start anything!!!

I dont wan't to go to the expense of having a locksmith to open the car and then breaking the steering colum to make a new key, so does anyone know where i can get a key made that will start the engine and open the doors???

I got mine cut at Bunnings, and it took them three goes to get it working!

A junior guy had the first two attempts, which failed to create a working key. It took a seasoned old pro to make another one, with a great deal of care and attention.

You could get your money back, or keep bothering them to recut it until it works... or find the old bloke at Bunnings Spearwood!!!!

Did the key cut by the old guy open the doors only? or did it start the engine as well? And also what year FTO did you have the key cut for?

It was a '95 FTO. And after the third recut, the key opened everything.

got mine done at westfield inaloo. the guys a pro. first time no dramas. cost 12$. nothing to it.
