The increase in bot registrations/postings have prompted me to switch over to admin account activation. It's a pity, but I just can't justify the daily cleanup effort any longer!
If a future version of phpBB keeps out the trash, I'll switch it back to automatic email activation.
Apologies if this inconveniences any potential FTO newcomers.
No apologies to the world's online casinos, Russian ladies looking for a hot Aussie man, sites purporting to host hot naked Shakira videos, purveyors of fine meds, sites for girls who are boys who like boys to be girls, etc. etc. etc.

*chuckles* I deleted a few of those the other day (shakira ones). Maybe it's time to start shopping around for a new board that makes use of the Akismet spam filtering service - or - seeing if there is a captcha plugin for phpbb.
I'll have a look at around to see how much forum software has evolved over the last 4 years or so since we installed this stuff. If there is a more advanced one around that can import the posts from phpbb automatically it might be worth a switch. |

| I tried implementing Akismet as a spam filter but it didn't work. Bummer. |
