ok well we finally read out the code on fayes FTO.. was no 14 throttle position sensor. my question is Where would 1 locate such a part and 2 any idea of cost and where it is located to replace or would it be a job for the mechanic??

ok well thinking about this some more.. I need some more info..

the TPS obviously is a analog sensor and I would guess be somewhat like a standard potentiometer. whilst driving round in it tonight I notice the trend that the ECU light would come on only when the throttle/accelerator was in the fully off position/foot not on gas and would turn off again one you are back on the gas.

so realy the question is can you get to the contacts of teh sensor?? and clean them as I think this is all that the problem is..

Have you got that CD of the FTO workshop manuals?

In the 'Chassis Workshop Manual Part 1', under 'Multi-Point Fuel Injection' section, there is a troubleshooting bit for the TPS.

It basically involves checking that the resistance is consistent and smooth as the throttle moves from closed to WOT. Your TPS is probably reading "impossibly" out of range when fully closed.

You could try disassembling it and giving it a clean, but I've never done it - so don't ask me if/how it's possible to do so! Smile

hehe yer I still got that richard.. will have a look at it tonight.. hrmm i MAY give it a go.. $150 for a 2nd hand sensor.. is the only reason!!

my guess is that it is going open circuit on the closed position as 8 years of spending most of its life there would build up a fair bit of crap I would imagine..
