hi everyone,
i just recently got a 95 gpx tip, yay! Laughing

Its in good nick, except for one problem, a dodgy speedometer. when i accelerate past 100km/h, the speedo seems to get stuck, it keeps going up but doesn't go down. it only goes back down when i hit the brakes and decrease speed dramatically, and it just drops down instantly from like 120 to 60km/h. weird? i took it to crockenberg for a service but all he could recommend was to completely change the speedo, costing about $400-500. sheesh. just wanna know if anyone else has had this problem, how to fix it, and a good place to do so? any help would be greatly appreciated. cheers!

I had this problem in my old holden camira (ahhhh first cars)... I just lived with it though Very Happy

the speedo also wobbled its way up to any speed less than 60km/h

Maybe take off the dash and clean it all out?

thanks for that. i understand how you lived with it, being a holden camira, but its kinda hard when u wanna rip the crap out of your fto, but not wanting to have the speedo stuck on 120 all the way up the freeway Razz

I kniow with some older style speedo's (like landcruiser)
the back bearing thing (on back of speedo)can wear out and this speed jumping thing happens. Dunno if it can be fixed in FTO

Is it a stock speedometer (black background), or has somebody added a white/indiglo dial kit? If so, they could have pushed the needle on too hard or something when refitting it.

I think that unit comes out fairly easily, so you could have a careful poke at it and see if there's anything you can fix...

hi Richard, the previous owner installed white dials that light up blue/green (damn it, another glitch is sometimes the dials don't illuminate, usually when i start up the car, then it flickers on after awhile). so maybe u might be right.
i'll try to see what i can do, its not a major problem, just a bit of a pain in the arse... Smile

Now that i know about the dials...
Definately the fitting of the dials, heard of a few with that problem after doin it.
