Ouch! The question is, how much are you insuring it for? Since there's no market value as such on imports, do you insure at the purchase price? What if you think its worth more? Can someone give me an idea on the value of a 1995 GPX (Mivec) Auto please??
Cheers! |

At a wild guess, $16k-19k...
Could be way out though. I really don't spend any effort keeping up on resale value, as I don't plan on selling it... and because it's a depreciating asset that'll probably depreciate to sod-all before I ever part with it!

Car depreciates at 18.75% as of 1 July 2002. That is the rate insurance company would use if you're insuring at market value. It was previously set at 22.5% prior to July 2002.
If it doesn't cost you an arm and leg, it would be best to insure at agreed value. Generally the GPX are around $18k - $21k - check the newspaper or auto trader for price guide.
I had mine agreed on $27K, but if I was insured at market value, it would probably be between $13k to $15k if it was a write off. Man!!! With $15K I can't even buy myself a GPX.
Hope that helps

| Insured mine with HBF and managed to bargain a 30% no claim after just having 3rd party previously. All I had to do was provide a clean record of claims / accidents from my previous insurers and they sorted it out for me. I think it works out to about $70 a fortnight, so I don't really notice it going missing as they debit it out of my account a few hours after I get paid. I'm 21, I think I got a decent deal. |

OK so most of these companies have told me that my car does not fit the profile for an import.
Is that just a nice way of saying I am a liability and they dont want me???
Cause I am sick of hearing it and would rather know the truth so I can give up looking for insurance.... |

| HBF are fine, FTO is listed, they will insure you for full possible cover, at agreed value. I don't know why you are experiencing problems and no one else is, whats your driving record like? |

Unfortunately we have had a really bad year with the cars.
I had one at fault accident last june, and one in my taxi, not at fault.
My missus was hit by two cars at once which wasn't her fault and to top it off the car got stolen. The theft is all we have claimed against our insurance but they apparently look at not at fault accidents as if you are at fault.
I know it sounds like a pretty crap record but remember, I do 400+ Km per day, bet most don't do that in a week. It's like the thing with the speed cameras, i go throughy 3-4 per day, most people are unlucky to go through one a day or even one a week. So if I go through say 20 per week and get a fine every 3 months thats 1 in 240.
Most people go through one a week and still get a fine every 3 months or so, making it 1 in 12. So i go through 20 times the number of speed cameras and do at least 5 times as many k's as most other drivers.
When you look at it like this, who is the bad driver???
But that not how they see it, like i said I wish they would just tell me it is because my record is crap, not make up excuses. (cause if you have no trouble then they must be lying to me) |

Yeah its not an easy situation
Did HBF deny you insurance? or just quoted an absurd amount?

HBF said the car did not fit the correct profile for an import. I think it should have been that I didn't fit the profile for an import???
Been thinking maybe because I have agreed value 24K, cause the cars worth 19 and the stereo, extractors, mags etc is listed, that maybe it is too high and would be better going for market value??? |

You should be able to get insurance with HBF no problems, it doesnt make sense.
Try telling them that you were referred to them by by the FTO Drivers Club of WA, and that a large number of members have HBF insurance for their cars, it might change their mind. |

Spoke to HBF ten minutes ago. They very politely told me that their policies on imports have changed and that they can no longer cover them because they are too expensive to repair. Damn.
So now it is a problem for all of us, unless they are fibbing.
When's yours up for renewal?
Who else should I try? |
