I bought a Manual GPX FTO a few months ago but it needs more power. The only mods that have been done are a pod filter and bigger exhaust. I am thinking of adding a turbo or dropping a 4G63 turbo EVO 2 into it. So if any one has any advice on this or any other ideas please let me know |

Yep...
Either sell the house to bankroll it (and buy a second car to get you around while you work)... or buy a different car!
If you're after blistering straight line speed, an FTO ain't really the go. Dollar-for-kilowatt, they aren't efficient on the wallet when it comes to wringing more power from the engine.
Anyways, here are few notes off the top of my head...
- Danny here in Perth has dropped a very powerful engine in his (but has gone through just a few dollars in the process!!! ).
- A guy by the name of Ashley put an RPW turbo kit on his. He's in the UK, but RPW are here in Perth. It had an initial problem (something to do with oil to the turbocharger). After getting that fixed, it ran for a few weeks before it blew a head gasket (a custom low compression type at that). I think he's got that fixed up, but haven't heard if it's running again.
- There's an FTEVO (hehe) with the engine you mentioned - in Scotland, I think. Last I heard it was off the road, but don't know if it was engine-related. It was still only FWD though.
- Tony Banton in the UK has spent the last 3 years trying to get a supercharger working on his GPX. It's kept him very busy solving endless engineering issues, from blown gearboxes to extra injectors to engine management.
So it can be done if you've got the determination and the dosh. And a second car.

I would follow in dannys footsteps if you really want to turbo it... especially if you are in perth as it would be easy for the same workshop to do it again...
but it will cost you a lot.. iirc dannys engine is the Galant VR4 type S 2.5L?? Twin TURBO but his is custom single turbo..

Otherwise the oversize throttle body and extractors add a bit...
But i agree, if you want more power, buy something built with it cause its gonna cost a packet and you'll break stuff. |

the 6A13 conversion could be done a lot cheaper than i did it if you are not aiming for maximum power. but you would still need a serious bank balance to take it on. the engine alone you are looking at at least 3500 AUD if you can find one, you might get lucky and find one cheaper but the best i have got any of mine for was 3500. The only problem i am having at the moment is with the clutch. And i am not doing the sort of speeds i did to blow up the first motor till i have that rebuilt and in.
I tried to make sure that i did it properly so as to make it reasonably reliable but still with loads of power.
I can put you intouch with the workshop that did mine.
