I have a 95 gpx mivec with a factory sun roof.. when i purchased the car the sunroof controller died but have just got that fixed though . Unfortunately the seal on the sun roof has also passed it best days which has allowed parts of the frame to rust. Ive been told it will be impossible to get the glass out of the frame so a serious job fixing the frame isnt goin to happen.... ie. no welding as it will bust the glass... A simple clean up of the rust and rust protection is possible but then a new seal from japan looks like it will cost anywhere up from $300. Im also tempted to look for a completely new glass top(with frame) second hand but havent seen anything in perth and doubt i will.
Basically im just wanting to know if anyone has had any similar experience and/or can offer some advise on which course i can take to make my baby all better . (damn sun roofs ) |

The FTO sunroof looks like it's totally removable!
Download the FTO technical manuals (http://www.fto-ireland.com downloads section) and look in up in 'Workshop Manual Part II'.
Here's a taster...
- ROOF LID GLASS REMOVAL
1. Tilt up the sunroof.
2. Remove the roof lid glass mounting screws and lift the roof lid glass to remove it.
That's it for the glass, hehe. There are other bits on removing the seal from the glass (err, peeling it off all the way around - amazing! ), sunroof ECU/guide/drive-cable removal, etc.
So get downloading, look it up and you'll have it fixed in no time.
And if you want that real paper feel, I've got an original hard copy right here. Bought it years ago when I was in the UK...
