I raced with my Mivec V6 for a short distance of 500metres in quite a high engine rev recently. My engine started to develop problem soon after the incidence and became so serious that it die off wheneve the car stopped. It has no idling speed at all. Its idling speed goes up and down like having problem breathing before cutting. My mechanic could not locate the fault. I would appreciate it if anyone could enlighten me.

check the stepper motor.. or wires to the stepper motor, mine did that awhile ago, and the idle wouldnt stop going up & down (and stalling), so as a quick fix i raised the idle speed so it wouldnt stall. so then it idled between 1-2.5k revs, but now its settled down a bit to 1-1.5 but still drops to 500 on occasion. getting a new one soon tho

I tried Yesterday as suggested but did not manage to rectify it. The stepper motor plunger was clean and functioning ok. Here are some new indicators:
When we removed any three injectors input for 3 of the 6 cylinders while engine was running, the idling became ok and normal, even without the strong exhaust odour. But the moment we fix back the 3 injectors( any 3 of them) which we have earlier removed, the thick black smoke and gas odour came back, and the idling jumping and engine cut-off again.
Hence, we assume that the fuel injected into chambers must be over supplied, causing the idling to have gone mad. However, we can maitain good idling speed but not during driving with just 3 out of the 6 injectors in place.
Further more, we cannot locate the reason the malfunction in controlling fuel supply to the chambers via the injectors.

hmm interesting

i reckon it could still be the stepper motor controlling the injectors in some way or another.. or the ecu.. or some degraded wires sending a false signal somewhere

have you tried an ecu reset?

Hi,

Having some hardtime to figure out what was happening yesterday. a little progress by replacing an item known as idling speed fuel injector resistor( not too sure the name), the black smoke and exhaust odour disappeared but idling timing still malfunction. We have reset ecu by disconnected it for about 10minutes before. Wiring checks were done visually as we do not have the meter to test the load.
Today's challenges will be to see if opening up the stepper motor to see if the coil and the six connecting electrical terminals leading to ?? and hope for the best. Not too sure if the stepper motor control the fuel injector required for the idling speed or are there any other parts?

I would recomend removing power to the ecu for 30minutes to an hour for a full reset.

It has no smoke and odour now but needs at lease 15 minutes to warm up before I could move the car. Still no air-con allowed and the engine get cut-off ocassionally and hunting. I shall try disconnect ecu once more tomorrow. I would sent it to the agent for the final verdict if it does not work. Oh, I realised it is supposed to be later today. It has past mid-night.
