you can't get that much power with normal mods eg exhaust and air filter as you would get with other cars, but it's still worth it. Improving other aspects really help eg LSD (limited slip diff), a short shift and even lighter rims. You can spend the big bucks and go for nos, turbocharger or supercharge...........if you have the money and the balls Laughing .

Well i'll keep that in mind. RPW seem to think that they can improve the performance of my car no problems with things like Cold air induction, extractors, Over sized throttle body and a Fuel pressure reg kit. Have you heard about anyone trying this stuff on an FTO. Confused

SO if you go to the Motorplex tonight, you'll have to let me know what times you managed with your LSD..?? : Razz

I got the full list of mods offered by RPW...
Extractors, oversize throttle body, rising rate fuel pressure reg, cross slotted rotors all round and race pads, cold air induction/rampod... i think they do cams too now but i'm a bit away from that....
Any way, since the mods she goes like a shower of sheet metal.. hehe not that it was sluggish before. The performance mods definately make it quicker and sound heaps better. Fuel economy is only marginally affected (depending on whether you like to open the throttle right up to hear the new throaty burble, almost sounds as good as a VCool and I haven't had a prob with brake fade since. In stock form she's a nice package but the mods definately finish er off. Now all i need is a good exhaust and a paint job (to make the veilside kit look nice)
If were gonna open up a can of whoop ass I'm there regardless, i've been hangin for it for a while but too ashamed to take it down with it smashed up. Least I'll knock off a couple of stockers (fto's) and plenty of commonwhores etc.. that way I wont look so bad with the dents. For the doe I've spent (2g), the only better option would have been NOS, but hey, thats still an option....

I recently had mine serviced at Crockenberg's. We had a little chat about mods for FTO's. He reckons these so called performs mods are a waist of time. He see's some FTO's actually going backwards in power after the mods are in place. I must admit , its put me off the idea of spending 2K on my car. It's good to hear you think yours has improved heaps from the mods. Laughing

Have you had it dyno'd yet?? What would you be hoping for?? Rolling Eyes

no dyno run yet, but will be goin down the 400 soon as shes back from the paint shop.
Believe what you like, competitors will always rubbish other peoples products, and I couldn't care less if they don't sell anymore, cause that means I'm the only one with em and I know personally that the car is faster and alot more responsive to drive, and I dont talk sheet, I say it the way it is....
BTW Did crockenberge give any evidence that the performance goes backwards or is it just hearsay, like RPW saying it goes up? eg is there any dyno results dispoving it?
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I've never been beaten by anything under 5.8 L or non turbo.
Draw your own conclusions.
At a guess I would say she would have about 185kw (up from 150ish) but hey thats just a guess(wish) and I have no way of testing it at the moment.

after having taking a short, yet cautious spin of elmo's car after he got it back from RPW, i can attest to the fact that his car is a real beast Smile Seriously, i was quite impressed with the mods that was done, it was in a real hurry to get past 100km/h... i guess if u wanna make ur fto go (yet alone actually feel a noticeable difference), u gotta spend at least 2k on it, no point buying piece buy piece, thats how ur car probably goes backwards in performance... improving one aspect, but not the rest. Anyway, i reckon that when vlad and elmo line up for the 1/4 mile, i'll definitely be there to see it.. and i'm sure alot of ppl are also interested. Btw elmo, hows ur car looking now? all fixed?

Last spring, Mark and I spent a lot of time testing this'n'that with that little 'home dyno' unit. K&N pod filter, stock induction, bored out throttle body, various stuff. We didn't find any magic bullet.

I've emailed you about some stuff, including the home dyno thingumy. Want to patch it into your car and run some tests some time? Smile

I went to an air filter shop the other day and had a chat.
Now they are suppliers of the K&N range of filters but they DO NOT have pod filters in store. Why? because they think it gives u backwards performance.

The reason is engine heat. On the dyno, pod filters seem so great because first of all, the bonnet is up, and secondly there is a BIG fan blowing directly into the engine bay. Thats how the pod gets cool air and performs so well! On the road, all you will get is engine heat resulting in your car going slower.

However, there is a way in making use of the pod. Spending $500+ to SEAL off ALL areas that has heat surrounding the pod. You cannot simply get a tube to feed cold air or block off areas where you think has heat with plastic of foam pieces...

Another thing they also told me is that pod filters were only invented because big performance cars needed more space for their turbos and intercoolers..therefore, took away the airfilter box, and substituted it with the pod. Of course these cars were professionally modified and had money to properly seal off all areas giving heat. This was why everyone wanted a pod. They had seen big performance cars have them..... Pods simply look cool and have a cool sound. Thats the main reason behind people purchasing them... They would know because they sell filters..

I'm no car expert but what they say does sound logical...

That ties in with our testing results. A consistent loss of a few lb/ft torque right across the entire rev range with a pod filter (no reengineered airflow or anything, compared to stock airbox). That was with on-road testing, not stationary.

Mark used to have the "in front of radiator" type pod installation. But it got absolutely shredded by stuff coming in at it, and was caked in dirt. It was uncleanable, so he ditched that setup. That's what prompted a bit of testing of this'n'that. Smile

Elmo

Thanks for the feedback, like i said its great to hear someone is expertimenting with these machines and getting some results at the same time. You've made my mind up. i'll be sending the 2K on my machine very very early next year...So look out buddy Laughing !

Ellusion

I had a chat with a guy from Extreme Machine in willeton ( i think thats the name). He offered me a POD filter with a custom made cold air induction kit. He showed me one that was ready to be installed into a Skyline. Its a thermal instulated Sheetmetal Box which obviously fits around the filter to provide maximum sheilding from the engine heat. He promised a 22KW increase on a Skyline GTS-T but could'nt say for sure on a Mivec FTO. The only think that put me off was the $800 price tag compared to RPW $275. But after reading this discussion i'm wonder if RPW was just going to fit a POD filter in with some minor plastic shielding, resulting in the sorts of issues your talking about..

Cheers...

Paul.

exactly! A properly designed cold air intake, into your stock airbox, a k and n apnel filter will suaully give you better power up than a pod filter.

Pod filters suck all hot air from the engine, everyone knows hot air is less dense than cold air, so thats where the power loss occurs.

Its either your deaply affected by placebos, or you havent been in a 13 second machine.

Ive been in everything upto a 1300HP road legal beast, no FTO is in the 13s.

ive got an FTO so im not being biased but stating the facts.
